Colden via Lake Arnold to Avalanche Pass
6/30: We really preferred hiking Colden via Marcy dam to lake Arnold, to the summit and then down to lake colden and to avalanche pass. It would have been way more challenging ascending avalanche pass, as it’s way steeper, wet and with slippery rock faces. Beautiful views all throughout the hike, with wet muddy spots on the trail where there is less sun. Flys and mosquitos got bad in the afternoon!!! And so many stairs to enjoy!

Glad you enjoyed it! I hiked it the opposite way last fall and was thinking how glad I was that I didn’t do it the other way. I would not have wanted to go down those steep exposed rock faces and ladders. To each their own I suppose. It’s a great hike and very rewarding either way.
