6/19- Saddleback Mt
On Juneteenth I hiked Saddleback Mt via the Orebed Brook Trail. I had to orphan Saddleback last year when attempting HaBaSa because I got stuck in a severe pop-up thunderstorm (and almost while on the exposed summit of Haystack).
I started early to beat any afternoon rain/storms. About 2 hours in, just after passing JBL, I got rained on for about 45 mins. Are you kidding me?! Made for a wet approach. As I got near the slide and the brook, there was some of that slippery red slime, so just be careful with your footing.
I climbed the staircase into the clouds and was greeted with no views. I waited for a bit at the summit to try to see if the clouds would blow away, but I only got glimpses of a view. I gave up and started descending. Coming down the stairs, the sun came out and I got some views. Ugh. Just my luck. But all in all a beautiful day. Hiking Saddleback by itself via Orebed was actually a pretty โeasyโ day.
