I was going to backpack Marcy sometime between August 6th-10th, spending 2 to 3 nights out there, via Lake Colden/Avalanche pass.
What are the chances the trail is restored by then given the recent mudslides? Is Van Hoevenberg in good enough condition to go that way?
I was pretty set on enjoying some camping around Lake Colden on a slow trip up to Marcy, but now I’m trying to evaluate the best option.
Edit: I should also clarify by “restored” I mean “some sort of walkable terrain approved by the rangers”, not a permanently restored trail.

There is also plenty of camping around the Marcy Dam area. At this point the Van Hoe trail has no issues. You could also do the loop via Lake Arnold trail to Marcy Trail. But as of now there is a small bushwhack to get around a portion of the Lake Arnold trail due to the slides.
