Giant Mountain, historically known as the "Giant of the Valley," is one of the most popular peaks in the Adirondacks. It is frequently paired with Rocky Peak Ridge, although many hikers mistakenly overlook the latter, unaware that it is part of the 46 High Peaks. The Ridge Trail provides the most direct and scenic route to Giant's summit, making it the quickest and easiest way to also reach Rocky Peak Ridge. Other approaches to Giant include the Roaring Brook Trail and the lesser-traveled North Side Trail.

This alternative route to Giant begins at the Roaring Brook Falls Trailhead. It is slightly longer than the Ridge Trail but features diverse terrain and a stunning waterfall near the start. If parking is unavailable at the Zander Scott lot, this makes an excellent backup option.
Mossy Cascade / Hopkins Mountain Loop - 13 miles, 5,000 feet elevation gain
This is the most challenging and least recommended approach to Giant. The route begins by climbing Hopkins Mountain before veering right toward the northern slopes of Giant. After summiting, hikers can continue out-and-back to Rocky Peak Ridge and descend via the Roaring Brook Falls Trail, walking the road back to their car.
