Dix Range – April 30 20.5 miles | All 5 peaks
Hey everyone — just wanted to share a detailed conditions update from the Dix Range today for anyone curious about snowmelt patterns this spring. It’s crazy how different it is for western peaks versus eastern peaks. There’s so much more snow out to the west side of the high peaks.
Went out with Jordan Relation together to work on our April grids.
With that said, the summer trailhead is still closed, so we started from the winter lot for an extra 4.2 miles. We did the full range — Dix via the Beckhorn first (highly recommend this direction for better energy flow) and then on to Hough, South Dix, Grace, and Macomb.
Now for the big surprise: We put on snowshoes at 2,500 ft… and took them off one minute later.
Aside from a few short patches at the summit ridges, the snow is nearly gone all the way up…
