Street & Nye 8/27

As with most of the usually muddy trails this summer, the trail for this hike has a minimal amount of mud. For the most part where there is mud you are able to rock hop or easily scoot around it. The bog at the intersection for S&N and the bog heading up to Street were easily walked across. The blowdown on this hike is what gets you now. There is quite a bit and it really slows you down the higher up you climb. There are also many new human herd paths being formed to avoid it so keep your eyes open. Crossing over Indian Pass Brook is easy right now ( I have crossed it in waist deep water before). There are many spots to cross it. I prefer to wait until I get about 1.5 miles in. There is a cairn and this crossing leads you directly to…

Allen Mountain - 0825

We hiked Allen on Monday. Started at 5:25am and finished around 6pm.

Good weather, but wet conditions after some heavy rain the night before. All of the slab was wet on the way up and made for slick conditions

The water crossing was easy to navigate with the water levels being so low in the area over the last several weeks

8/23 - Seymour Mountain

8/23 - Seymour Mountain. Arrived at to the lot at 5am and mangaged to snag the last spot. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, conditions are extremely dry. All three trails (Blueberry, Ward Brook Truck and Seymour) were in great shape with minimal mud. The streams were running very, very low -- so make sure to pack enough water. The slide is steep in sections, but there is a herd path to the right to help with navigation. Finally, congratulations too the two hikers who became 46ers yesterday! Such a special moment to watch.

Thanks for posting this, looks like I great hike. I was thinking about doing this next weekend, but I know next weekend will be busy. I plan on leaving my house around 2 am to get there around 5 am. If the lot is full can people park on the road? Or will I need to turn around if the lot is full. If that's the case is there another parking lot down the road? This will be my first time to that trailhead. -Thanks :)

Couch&Panther 8/19

On jmagary44’s intel I decided to go back to the Santa’s after being there over 3 weeks ago. That day I hit Santa and it was a mud fest. Today it was like any other typical trail in the ADK’s. Minimal mud and the bog heading to Couch is easily passable. There is quite a bit of blowdown throughout the hike. The bugs were non existent due to the cooler temps (44F at the start). As usual the terrain is rough and the trails are narrow at times. Pants, long sleeves, safety glasses and trekking poles came in handy today. As always be safe, leave no trace and happy hiking to all!!!
