HaBaSa from JBL

Morning ADK Hikers,

We’re thinking about spending another weekend at JBL for some hiking and are debating how best to tackle HaBaSa. So far, we’ve completed Gothics, Armstrong, Upper & Lower Wolfjaw, and Big Slide from JBL.

Our question: instead of trying to knock out HaBaSa in one big push, would it make more sense to split it into two hikes?

1. Haystack (in and out)

2. Saddleback & Basin loop

If doing the loop, is it better to go Basin first or Saddleback first?

We’re still relatively new (11/46 done) and would love to hear your recommendations and advice.

Thanks 👍

You could also do Saddleback alone; Haystack and Basin together could be a long day, but that way you would avoid the climbing entirely. I found the whole stretch between Saddleback and Basin to be more sketchy than I enjoyed.
