Catamount Ridge Bushwhack
Did a great bushwhack yesterday off the ridge that leads from the top of Catamount to the Taylor Pond Loop Trail. The route we negotiate took us northeast us over three small prominence along the way with some great views of the Wilmington Range and points from the north to the east-southeast. The 3.2 mile bushwhack route had an overall descent from the summit of about 2200ft with some rough going through tightly packed coniferous forests. The traverse was much easier through the deciduous sections. The bushwhack ended precisely at the intersection the trail that comes in around the dam end of Taylor Pond and the trail that leads in from the Nelson Rd. We had left a second vehicle near the caretakers residence at Taylor Pond, so we continued the hike to the Pond to finish. The hike was a total of 6.2 miles with 2069 feet of gain and 2292 feet of descent. As stated, there were some great views along the way.
