Marcy Skylight Gray 46er Finish!

Incredible day yesterday, finally finished on Skylight!

Made a quick stop to Indian Falls before cutting over to the Lake Arnold Trail. The work around for the slide was a lot shorter than I expected. The Floating Logs certainly lived up to their reputation, my foot went in up to my knee, haha. Gray was a fun climb, negotiating the rock walls and slabs made it enjoyable. The views of Skylight really got me excited to get back down and over there! The climb up Skylight seemed to go quick, once above tree line it was really starting to set in, the finish was just ahead! Beautiful views on top, and the alpine vegetation was magnificent. I'm really happy I decided on this as the finish rather than Whiteface! It was great to look towards the Santanoni Range to reminisce on the beginning of this adventure! The climb up the…

Good work!!! I don’t care if you are a first time 46er or a multiple 46er, it quite an accomplishment!! And only those who have done it understand the feeling you get once you hit that 46th peak. My wife is a two time Iron Man finisher and she says becoming a 46er was tougher for her. Congratulations!!

Haystack and Basin

Completed High Peaks 42 and 43 with a long and difficult hike to Haystack and Basin on 8/15. Got an early start with a 2:25AM wake-up and started hiking at 5:35 under headlamp power. I was out there so long that I was back under headlamp for the last couple of miles. Lots of hikers around today. This hike covered 19.62 miles and 5,135 feet of elevation gain. This is apparently at the upper limit of my abilities. I had to rest a lot on the way out. I dropped my pack at the Haystack junction and at the Shorey Shortcut and went to the peaks with just a summit pack. This helped a lot with the climb over Little Haystack.

Haystack is my new favorite High Peaks view. Tough to get to, but well worth it. The trail was in great shape. One of those rare dry feet days.…

Great pictures and great hike! Cheers to the final three!

Hopkins via Mossey Cascade Trail

8/15 Whole trail is bone dry (although the first 1.5 miles usually are). One of my favorite non- high peak hikes. No wildfire smoke so brilliant view!

Insane Upper Works Day (Marshall, Cliff, Redfield, Gray, Marcy, and Skylight) 8/11)

I began hiking from Upper Works at 1:15 am, planning on at least Marshall, Cliff, and Redfield for my second round, but I had the whole day off so I would give myself permission to add more if I was feeling up for it. I felt comfortable and reached Marshall by 5. I took an hour nap, but because I dropped my pack I folded up my headlamp’s elastic band and used it as a “pillow”, which worked surprisingly well. After this I took probably the less desirable trail because it was overgrown and passed by a lean to, but soon after made it to the Cliff and Redfield intersection, where I dropped my pack and got both. Cliff was easy and better than the last time when I cut my arm falling down the scramble! Redfield felt like it went on too long; it was also getting hot and…
