Finally completed a long time goal - sunrise on Algonquin. Left parking lot at 4am and at summit by 630. Perfect conditions- 360 degree views, no wind and temps hovering in the 30’s. Lots of ice on the slabs from Wright jct - microspikes were needed.
Allen was beautiful. River crossing was honestly not bad at all. We went right and rock hopped. No need to take of boots and socks. Allen slide is VERY SLIPPERY, have a Vibram sole or microspikes and go slow. Nothing weird happened in the woods. 44/46.
Sawteeth was cool. AMR lake road to A.W. Trail. Nice trail to junction. Then went left up to Sawteeth. Very rocky and rugged. Summit was not marked. But to know when you are there. Tru summit in the woods. 45/45
Gothics was amazing. From Sawteeth to pyramid was tough. Just tough. One section was really tough with a slab and some trees to pull on to. Pyramids peak was amazing. Views are very cool. From P to G was also tough. Gothics is just spectacular. 46/46
Coming down Gothics via beaver meadow trail. Trail was nice with lots of ladders…

Absolutely gorgeous day! The views on the ascent up the brothers of the Great Range are nearly unmatched! Went with my brother, which was our 38 of 46 together (we finished our 46 at the same time in 2022) , and our friend, Tom, who bagged his 31st! Couldn't have been a nicer day in the ADK and felt great bagging another peak that's forgotten even though Yard is also over 4,000 ft! Trail was in great shape the whole loop! Recommended this loop to anyone whose looking to bag additional ADK peaks!
I think you’re the only other person I know who has done Yard!
Delayed post! Hiked Hurricane from the eastern approach from the Big Crow parking lot on O’Toole Way. Easier route than going from 9N. First mile is very flat. Joins the standard trail about a quarter mile from the summit. Hiked Cobble Lookout the next morning while I waited for it to warm up enough to paddle on Moose Pond. Easy little jaunt to a great view. Has anyone bushwhacked over to Winch Mountain from there? I just read about that in the Adirondack Explorer.
