Tabletop and Phelps 7/6
Sunday was warm and muggy, but ended up being a great day on trail to check off Tabletop and Phelps Mountains! Pam and I started early and were happy to find easy parking at 6am at South Meadows. Biting flies were only annoying on the Marcy Dam Truck Trail. Otherwise, the day was clear, mostly dry, and bug free!
We stopped by Indian Falls before heading up to Tabletop. There was a bit of mud on the trail, but nothing deep. The way down and back to the junction to Phelps seemed to take forever, but eventually we were on our way up again. The heat really started to drag me down on the way to the summit, but we got to the top of Phelps and took a long break before heading back down.
We couldn't help but stop and jump in to Phelps Brook on the way out. It was so cool and refreshing! We definitely weren't the only ones with that idea - all of the easy-to-reach swimming holes had hikers enjoying the water on our way out.
Round trip took us 10hr 45min, 14.3mi, and 3,924ft of gain. High Peaks 25-26/46 for me!
