Gray, Skylight, Marcy via Avalanche Lake
Mount Skylight, Mount Marcy, and Gray Peak Loop Trail
So my son and a friend from work did this as an out and back from the LOJ via Avalanche Lake this last Friday evening and Saturday.
Things to know/note using both onX and AllTrails we had an expected mileage of 16.8 miles… due to a thing my son calls map miles the actual hike was between 20-21 miles! He explained that a cm on a map is 1 mile but it doesn’t account for topography/elevation… this makes sense the way he explained it. So plan on closer to 20 miles. The trail conditions, weather and people were great! The bugs at 4 corners…not so much, also the fact that my sawyer filter was missing the rubber seal… made filtering water a nightmare. Would I do it again? Absolutely! Would I check my filter carefully? Absolutely! Will I be doing a better fit test on my hiking shoes? Absolutely! Some of my toenails are a bit swollen Sunday and today and I may lose toenails if I’m not careful. I’m soaking in cold water and taking anti-inflammatory meds to try and stave that off…
