Marcy, Skylight, Gray 9/5
Had an awesome day on the trail on Friday. My original plans to hike Saturday changed due to the weather so I got the day off which turned out to be a great choice. Started from the Loj just before 6:00am and chose to start with Gray then Skylight then Marcy. The trails were relatively wet from the rain the night before but nothing out of the ordinary for the High Peaks. The “floating logs” section was a breeze, none of the logs were actually floating because the water level was so low, was able to walk right across them. Gray was a short and steep hike but Skylight was a surprisingly gradual hike to the summit. I really enjoyed this mountain. The hike to Marcy was not as bad as I was anticipating but I knew this side would be more challenging that the Van Hoevenberg trail. Luckily I got the summit to myself for like 10 minutes, unreal for a bluebird Friday. Different than the first time I hiked it and there were dozens of people up there. It was pretty windy at the summit so I found a nice spot to take a break and eat out of the wind. I stopped at Indian falls on the way down which is always worth it! Car to car in just under 9 hours, really enjoyed this loop! 39/46
