Santanoni Range 7/21/25
This was a very difficult hike for me, but High Peaks 38, 39 and 40 are in the books. The trail was a sloppy mudfest pretty much all along the way. No need to fret the Couchsachraga bog, my feet had taken multiple mud baths long before then. The workaround to the left of the bog does help. I met a new hiking friend, Julie Pike, who stuck with me from the Santanoni summit back to the trailhead, even when I started feeling ill and had trouble keeping water down. We were pretty close in regular hiking speed, but I know I slowed her way down when I started having to make frequent stops. Still, she refused to go on without me. Many thanks, Julie. I hope to be able to pay your kindness forward sometime. The trip back from Couchsachraga was miserably long and hard, as was the rock-hopping descent down the Panther Brook Trail. So glad to reach the road and when we spotted the gate it was pure joy.

Also did Couch/Panther today. Mud wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be but was still a very wet feet day. Couch is terrible that drop down but the views on Panther made it worth it.
