Glorious Whiteface Sunrise! (8/22)
Immediately after my closing shift on Thursday I hopped in my car and drove 2 hours to Lake Placid with the goal of fully sunrising Whiteface. I left my boots outside which soaked them from rain, so this was my first peak I attempted in trail runners. I began hiking around 1, and made it to Esther around 3:30. From there I began my ascent up Whiteface, and only near the very end did I see the first glimpses of light. I made it to the top at 5:00, but as I expected it was pretty chilly. I layered and curled up to withstand the wind, and enjoyed a few brief intermittent naps as I watched the sun rise. It was a fully clear day, and my first time watching the sunrise starting in darkness! It was a glorious experience, and I jogged down and made it to my car by 7:30.
