Looking to hike Allen the week of 8/8-11. We are considering backpacking it if possible and setting up camp a few miles in near the base. What are our options for tenting this trip?

This is surprisingly becoming more common for this Hike. The unfortunate thing is that there are no dedicated spots to pitch a tent, however the one thing that Hike has that others don’t is an excessive amount of logging roads. So primitive camping really isn’t that hard to do. There are a few designated sites just north on the hanging spear fall trail (East River Trail)

But if you’re going to primitive camp, I would do it on one of the logging roads after you cross the Opalescent. Surely after that water crossing, you come to a massive abandoned gravel lot. There’s some spur trails and stuff in there, so you could probably pitch in that area. But whatever you do, do not do it right near the river crossing. You need to be 150 feet away from the river or trail.
