Santanoni 7/26
For some reason I get really excited hiking in the Santanoni’s. I am not sure if it’s the challenge or the chance to be a kid again by getting to play in the mud. Either way I truly enjoy it. We arrived at the trailhead at around 4am. The parking lot was already full. Several hikers decided to sleep in their vehicles and there was also a tent set up. I was able to squeeze in a spot just off the entrance way. The walk on the road at the beginning of the hike has quite a bit of blow down but all is easily passable. Once on the foot trail conditions were pleasant for a while. It seems the further you go the more mud that appears but all in all not bad for the Santa’s. Once you make the turn on the “Express” the fun begins. Nothing but mud, wet roots, blowdown and boulders. This pretty much takes you to the summit. A methodical hike for us but a blast. As always be safe, leave no trace and happy hiking to all!!
