Mount Colden via Lake Arnold Trail 8/6

Got to the LOJ around 5:45am and still plenty of parking. The trail up to the Lake Arnold trail intersection was mostly dry with minimal amounts of mud. We were even able to cross the brook at Marcy Dam without using the bridge. The beginning of the Lake Arnold trail has been eroded to the point where itโ€™s a combination of mud, rock and roots that I have not seen before. After that though itโ€™s just plenty of rock hopping until you reach Lake Arnold. Once you begin the ascent from Lake Arnold you will encounter the most mud you will see all day. The rest of the trail to the peak is mostly dry. What I did notice today was the amount of work being put in on trail maintenance. The guys and gals doing this work deserve a ton of credit. They are doing their best to redirect water and clearing up blowdown. On our way back to the parking lot we came by four gals working the trails and I was sure to thank them all for their hard work and effort. They appreciated the acknowledgement. By 1pm the lot was about 95% full. As always be safe, leave no trace, and happy hiking to all!!!
