Route History

Mount Colvin is named for Verplanck Colvin, whose Adirondack Survey work helped map, document, and advocate for the protection of the Adirondack region. Blake Peak is named for Mills Blake, Colvin’s trusted friend and assistant. Together, the two names carry more historical weight than the summit experience suggests: Colvin offers the view, Blake offers the 46er objective, and the pair preserves a link to the survey work that helped shape how the Adirondacks were understood.

Route Overview

AMR to Colvin and Blake

This standard out-and-back starts at AMR, follows Lake Road and Gill Brook to the Colvin approach, climbs Mount Colvin, drops into the Colvin-Blake col, tags Blake Peak, then returns the same way over Colvin.

Selected Route Access

Start at AMR / St. Huberts and use Lake Road to reach Gill Brook. This is the standard route for combining Colvin and Blake.

Selected Route Caution

The Colvin-Blake connector is the defining difficulty of this route. Blake is reached by a steep drop and reclimb, and returning requires climbing back over Colvin before the long exit to AMR.
