Primary Route
Adirondack Loj to Street and Nye
Standard Route

Street and Nye are a quieter Loj-based pair where the real character comes from Indian Pass Brook, a muddy unmarked climb, and two wooded summits tucked west of Heart Lake.

Street and Nye once had a much harsher reputation. After the Big Blow of 1950 ripped through the Adirondacks, blowdown on the east side of the range made the hike far more difficult than it is today. Older 46ers often remembered the pair as one of their hardest days, not because of elevation or exposure, but because of the mess of damaged forest. Modern trail work and forest recovery have changed the outing into a more reasonable wooded High Peaks hike, though Indian Pass Brook still keeps the route from ever feeling automatic.

Route Overview
This standard route leaves Adirondack Loj, turns onto the Street and Nye Trail, crosses Indian Pass Brook, and climbs to the upper split. From there, visit Street first, tag Nye second, and return by the same route.
Selected Route Access
Start from Adirondack Loj / HPIC and follow the Heart Lake approach to the Street and Nye Trail. The route uses a mix of maintained approach trail, herd-path-style footing, mud, and brook crossing terrain, so treat marker color as mixed unless independently verified.
Selected Route Caution
The Indian Pass Brook crossing can become unsafe in high water, and the upper route is an unmarked herd path with mud, blowdown, and limited summit views. Do not attempt this route when the brook is high or when navigation is uncertain.
