Route Guidance
Trail Overview
Balanced Rocks is a popular side destination on the Pitchoff west approach from Route 73, across from the Cascade/Pitchoff area. The route climbs steadily from the road, passes multiple viewpoints toward the Cascade Lakes and Cascade Mountain’s slide terrain, then turns onto a short spur to the exposed rock formation. Hikers go for a relatively short outing with unusually large views and open ledge character. The hike is moderate by mileage but feels steeper and rougher because of rocky, eroded sections, mud, side paths, and the final ledge exposure near the rocks.
