Route Guidance
Trail Overview
Castle Rock is a popular Blue Mountain Lake destination in the Sargent Ponds Wild Forest area. The hike begins near Maple Lodge Road and uses a marked route that initially follows a private road before entering Forest Preserve trail. Hikers go for the rocky summit, small cave and rock features, and the view over Blue Mountain Lake and Blue Mountain. It is moderate rather than long, with a short but steep upper climb that makes the final overlook feel more dramatic than the mileage suggests.
