Route Guidance
Trail Overview
Cathedral Rock Fire Tower is a short but distinctive hike near Wanakena and the SUNY ESF Ranger School. The route uses a mix of gravel roads, marked forest paths, and campus forest crossings before climbing toward Cathedral Rock’s cliffs, pavilion area, and fire tower. The tower originally stood on Tooley Pond Mountain and now offers views over the Cranberry Lake Wild Forest area. With modest mileage and elevation gain, this is an accessible-feeling fire tower objective, but the route includes multiple junctions and some drop-off exposure near the rock.
