Route Guidance
Trail Overview
Duck Hole is a remote interior destination in the western High Peaks Wilderness, associated with the old Duck Hole pond area, the Northville-Placid Trail, and the Preston Ponds corridor. The cleanest primary approach is from Upper Works through Henderson Lake and the Preston Ponds route rather than presenting it as a simple summit-style hike. The appeal is the wild setting, long approach, water corridors, lean-to and backpacking context, and connection into one of the quieter corners of the High Peaks. This is better treated as a remote hiking or backpacking objective than a casual day hike.
