Route Guidance
Trail Overview
French Point Mountain sits along the Tongue Mountain Range above Lake George rather than at the end of a simple out-and-back. Hikers usually encounter it while traveling the Tongue Mountain Range Trail, either as part of the longer Tongue Mountain Range and Northwest Bay loop from Clay Meadow or as part of a north-south Tongue Range traverse using Deer Leap access. The appeal is ridge walking, repeated Lake George views, and the bigger range experience around First Peak, Fifth Peak, and Montcalm Point. Treat it as a difficult ridge objective that needs full-day planning, not a quick summit stop.
