Route Guidance
Trail Overview
Goodnow Mountain Fire Tower is a Newcomb-area hike with a steady forest climb and a rewarding summit tower. The route is approachable by Adirondack standards, but it still asks for normal hiking judgment, especially when the tower stairs are wet, icy, crowded, or exposed to wind. From the top, the hike opens into a broad Central Adirondack view with the High Peaks on the horizon.
Trailhead
Begin from the signed Goodnow Mountain trailhead on Route 28N near Newcomb, west of the Adirondack Interpretive Center.
Ascent
The trail climbs at a steady to moderate grade, passes a small brook, then continues through forest with historic remains along the route.
Summit
A small open rock appears before the summit, but the primary view comes from the restored 60-foot Goodnow Mountain Fire Tower.
