Route Guidance
Trail Overview
High Falls is one of the signature backcountry destinations in the Five Ponds Wilderness, reached by a long route from Wanakena through quiet forest and Oswegatchie River terrain. Hikers commonly use the High Falls Loop, which follows old grades, wet sections, river views, primitive campsites, and a spur to the falls. The destination works as a strenuous day hike for experienced hikers, but it is especially suited to a backpacking itinerary. Its draw is the combination of waterfall, river corridor, remoteness, and classic western Adirondack wilderness character.
