Route Guidance
Trail Overview
Jay Mountain is a standout non-46er in the Jay Mountain Wilderness, offering a long, open ridge with broad views across the northeastern Adirondacks. The route begins at the Jay Mountain Trailhead and climbs steadily to the ridge, where hikers can continue across exposed ledges toward the higher summit area. It is popular for scenery, sunrise and fall-color potential, and the sense of a bigger mountain day without entering the High Peaks core. The open ridge also makes weather, wind, and footing more important than the mileage suggests.
