Route Guidance
Trail Overview
Mount Haystack is one of the Adirondacks’ most serious summit objectives, reached from The Garden by a long route through Johns Brook Valley and steep, exposed upper terrain. It is commonly grouped with Basin and Saddleback, but Haystack alone is still a major High Peaks day.
Access
Major Johns Brook Valley hub. Parking restrictions and shuttle context should be tracked.
Cautions
Haystack has exposed alpine terrain, major distance, and few comfortable bailout options once committed high on the route. Wind, storms, ice, and low visibility can make the summit approach unsafe.
