Route Guidance
Trail Overview
Owl’s Head Mountain has more character than a simple tower climb. The route begins in open hardwoods, passes through a quieter wetland section with boardwalk, and then works across the mountain’s multi-summit terrain before the final push. Near the top, hikers pass remnants of the former observer’s cabin before reaching summit cliffs and the restored fire tower, where Long Lake, Blue Mountain, the Sewards, and several distant tower peaks can come into view.
Access
From Long Lake, follow NY 30 north and turn onto Endion Road; parking/trailhead are on the right about 1.6 miles down Endion Road.
Seasonal Notes
Endion Road access and parking conditions can change with winter maintenance, storm damage, or local management. Confirm current access before planning around this trailhead.
Cautions
Final summit push is steep with slab rock and tall steps; tower stairs may be slippery in winter and exposed to wind.
