Route Guidance
Trail Overview
Prospect Mountain is one of the most recognizable Lake George summit hikes because it starts close to the village and finishes near the Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway summit area. The route feels more accessible than remote, but the climb is still sustained and direct. Hikers go for a practical Lake George summit workout, broad views, and a quick connection between village access and mountaintop scenery.
Access
Trail starts from Smith Street in Lake George Village and climbs to the top of Prospect Mountain in the Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway Day Use Area.
Seasonal Notes
The hiking trail can be used independently of the seasonal highway schedule, but summit-area access, facilities, and road activity vary by season.
Cautions
The climb from town is steep, and the summit area connects with seasonal Veterans Memorial Highway activity. Stay on the marked hiking route and check current access rules if planning around the developed summit area.
