Route Guidance
Trail Overview
Scarface Mountain is one of the Saranac Lake 6ers and a substantial moderate-to-hard hike from the Ray Brook area. The route begins with lower forest walking and bridge crossings, then climbs more steadily toward ledges and the wooded upper mountain. Hikers go for the challenge, 6er objective, and partial views from ledges rather than a wide-open summit panorama. The summit itself is mostly wooded, so the best scenic payoff comes along the upper approach instead of at the absolute high point.
