Route Guidance
Trail Overview
Shelving Rock Falls is a high-value scenic stop in the Shelving Rock area of Lake George Wild Forest. The walk follows a broad dirt route near the brook, with waterfall scenery, pools, and the option to continue toward the Lake George shoreline. It is approachable by Adirondack standards and works well as a short waterfall outing or part of a larger Shelving Rock day.
Access
From the east-side Shelving Rock Road approach, start from the designated parking area near the orange-painted steel gate by the culvert; parking is a short distance farther on the left. Parking is restricted to designated areas in the Shelving Rock area.
Seasonal Notes
Shelving Rock Road, parking, mud, ice, and storm damage can affect access. Check current Lake George Wild Forest notices before heading out.
Cautions
The falls area can be wet and slippery, especially near the brook, pools, and rock edges. Use caution around flowing water and do not treat the short distance as a reason to ignore footing.
