Trail Overview
Stillwater Mountain is a short fire-tower hike in the Independence River Wild Forest and Big Moose Conservation Easement area. The trail climbs from Big Moose Road to the 2,264-foot summit, where the renovated fire tower is open to the public and provides views over Stillwater Reservoir and the surrounding western Adirondacks. The outing is relatively short compared with many Adirondack tower hikes, but it has important access rules because much of the trail and summit are on private easement lands. It is best treated as a seasonal tower hike with clear public-use boundaries.
