Route Guidance
Trail Overview
Stony Pond is a useful middle-ground Adirondack pond destination: more remote than a roadside walk, but still simple enough to understand as an out-and-back objective. The route reaches a pond outlet and lean-to area in Vanderwhacker Mountain Wild Forest, giving hikers a quiet water destination with forest travel and a lower-commitment backcountry feel.
Access
Stony Pond Trail runs 2.1 miles from the trailhead to the outlet of Stony Pond, where it intersects with Hewitt Pond Trail.
Seasonal Notes
Vanderwhacker Mountain Wild Forest is open year-round with no fee.
Cautions
The trail network continues beyond the pond area, including sections with different management and use patterns. Stay on the appropriate public hiking route and follow posted signs.
