Route Guidance
Trail Overview
West Mountain is one of the more committing objectives in the Pigeon Lake Wilderness, best suited to hikers looking for a longer, quieter Adirondack day. The blue-marked Constable Pond-West Mountain Trail runs between the Higby/Judson Road side and Uncas Road, with the summit of West Mountain 5 miles one way from the Uncas Road trailhead. The route is not a short scenic overlook hike; it is a sustained forest approach into a remote wilderness setting. Its appeal is distance, solitude, and reaching the highest point in the unit rather than an open alpine-style summit.
