Route Guidance
Trail Overview
Whitney Lake is a remote West Canada Lake Wilderness destination reached from the Pillsbury Mountain/Military Road side by following the French Louie Trail and then an unmaintained side trail down to the lake. Hikers go for a deep-woods lake setting, backcountry camping potential, and the quiet character of one of the more tranquil lakes in the interior. The first leg on French Louie Trail is generally easier to follow but can be muddy; the side trail to Whitney Lake is not maintained consistently and may be overgrown. Treat this as a remote backcountry lake hike, not a casual pond walk.
