Dix Range

Planning on hiking the Dix Range in two weeks. How plentiful are the water sources? Any tips for going up the Macomb Slide?

So I actually always tell people to do Dix first. In my opinion, it’s better to start with the highest point with the most burnt, and then to send the range of the rest of the way, but it all depends on how people feel going downhill. After doing the whole range, only to descend off or what feels like ours, is just a terrible way to end of the day for me… So I like to descend the slide last. It’s a granular slide, so it’s not really slick. But the ground underneath your feet can give away.

As far as water, it’s an unfortunately pretty sparse range! So I would suggest either getting water at the bottom of the slide, or filtering off of some runoff as you ascend the 1st mile of the Beckhorn Trail, or vice versa. aside from that, there’s not much on the range! So definitely carry a lot
