Trekking Poles

ree

Lets talk Trekking poles! Ive had these very low budget trekking poles for 3 years! The red/black ones came with a pair of snowshoes I got when I was dabbling in snowshoeing (which i’ve only been once). One of the red/black ones broke mid season 2 years ago mid season so I got a second pair as I didnt hage time to research. I’ve since upgraded most all of my hiking equipment except my trekking poles, however they are next in line. So - here are my questions:

  1. What do people like?

  2. What are the Pro’s/Cons of rubber versus carbide tips?

  3. What are the differences between a cheap low budget pair and a more expensive brand/pair?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated as I plan on going to REI next month!

I just wrote this piece for the New York Times, if it’s helpful:
