Dog-Aware Hiking
Dog Friendly
Browse hikes where dog-related planning belongs directly in the decision process, including leash rules, access limits, terrain, heat, water, and crowding.

Hiking with dogs
Dog-friendly does not mean dog-simple.
Most Adirondack hiking areas allow dogs, but every route still needs a leash plan, water plan, terrain check, and honest read on your dog’s ability. Compare dog-aware hikes here, then verify current land rules before committing to a trailhead.
Access rules
Dogs are not allowed on AMR property. Other areas may have leash or site-specific restrictions.
Trail behavior
Keep dogs controlled around hikers, roads, summits, campsites, wildlife, and narrow trail sections.
Dog readiness
Bring water, waste bags, paw awareness, and the willingness to turn around before heat, distance, or rough footing becomes a problem.
